I am searching for information about my GGG Grandfather William Closs (Close) born abt 1792, married Sarah Printer b: abt 1801.  They settled in Kirkoswald, Ayrshire, Scotland.  Had several children and around abt 1849 the whole family migrated to the United States..

Any information would be appreciated

The 1841 census transcript has him aged 30 - a misreading of 50? - and born in Ireland.

Sarah is 40 and they have children Rebecca 20, John 15, William 13, Helen 11, James 10, Marrion 6 and a John Caglisham aged 5.

Address Cozie Glen, Kirkoswald.

There is also an Ancestry tree by Tina Burnside showing his arrival in USA 2 Aug 1849. Another tree says he was born in Ayrshire. You might want to check the US 1850 and 1860 censuses fir Allegany, Maryland (I don't have access).

Thank you.

I have information from the graves of both William Close (Closs) and his wife Sarah.  According to the headstone he died in 1872 at the age of 80 years old, so that puts his year of birth at 1792.

I have the U.S. Census information, plus plenty of information from the family States side.  Its Scotland that is proving a challenge.

Is there a link or address to contact Tina Burnside?

The trees on Ancestry all have him born later. I've checked parish records in Scotland and there is no William Closs listed as born between 1790 and 1800. Maybe it was Ireland?

I think I'd be suspicious of the headstone.

Have you tried http://www.leitrimroots.com/need-help/our-sources.html#Church%20Records ?

I did find a William Close (Closs) born in Ireland Oct 1791.  So maybe it was Ireland.  That would be 80 years and some odd months old at the time of death.

I just wish I could get something conclusive.  These shoddy census takers really are annoying.  If I could find a marriage record for William and Sarah that would probably have the parents names...

I will check out leitrimroots.com.. thanks.
Sorry missed your question. No link to Tina Burnside - it has to go through Ancestry.

I've just run a search of Scotlands People and there doesn't appear to be a marriage for William Closs/e or Sarah Printer after 1800.
