where to locate his birth certificate, no luck at town clerk, or state archives

Trying to locate Charles Alfred Davis's birth certifictate, born in Roque Bluffs Maine in 1873. Any ideas?

Comments

For some reason, people got lazy about registering births deaths etc. A certificate may not exist. If he was likely to have been baptized, try the churches for a baptismal record, which sometimes has a birth date.
