In 1921, Mrs. Leda Laurent, 32 years old b. Biddeford, Maine, but of Canadian citizenship, crossed into Canada. French was her native language. She was going to visit her father-in-law Alfred Laurent of Derome?, Quebec, and she intended to remain in Canada. Her last permanent residence was 238 Pleasant St., Fall River, Massachusetts.  Her travel ticket was from Fall River to Montreal.(Ancestry.com. Border Crossings: From U.S. to Canada, 1908-1935 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations Inc, 2008. Original data: Library and Archives Canada. Border Entries. Ottawa, Ontario, Canada: Library and Archives Canada, n.d.. RG 76-C. Department of Employment and Immigration fonds. Library and Archives Canada; 1908-1935 Border Entries; Roll: T-15299)

Leda came back to the USA in Feb 1922. Her nearest relative in Canada was her father-in-law Alfred.  She was going to be staying with her brother, Leon Gariepy at 238 Pleasant St., Fall River, Massachusetts.  She was born in Biddeford, Maine.  She had lived in the Unites States all her life.(Ancestry.com. U.S., Border Crossings from Canada to U.S., 1895-1956 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations, Inc., 2010. In 1910, Leda E. Gariepy, 21, lived in Old Orchard, York, Maine, with her father, Hermenegilde Gariepy, 58 b. French Canada, and her mother, Vitalino C Gariepy, 48 b. French Canada. Two other children, Eva P., 24 b. Maine, and Leon J., 25 b. French Canada. Mother-in-law Elizabeth M. Chartier, an 83 year old widow b. French Canada, lived with the family. Vitalino has had 7 children, only 3 of whom are living.  Elizabeth has had 12 children, 4 of whom are living.("United States Census, 1910," database with images, FamilySearch (1910 US Census, https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1951-22993-7045-52?cc=1727033 : accessed 8 June 2016), Maine > York > Old Orchard > ED 254 > image 11 of 21; citing NARA microfilm publication T624 (Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.). In 1900, Leda E. Gariepy, born in Jan 1889, lived in Biddeford, Saco, Maine, with her parents Herman*** and Vitaline Gariepy.(Year: 1900; Census Place: Biddeford, York, Maine; Roll: 602; Page: 9B; Enumeration District: 0225; FHL microfilm: 1240602)

Given a birth date in January 1889, it is possible that the Leda E. Laurent who died in Coweta County, Georgia, on 27 Jan 1987 is the same person.(Georgia, Death Index, 1919 - 1998 [Ancestry.com.database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations Inc, 2001. Original data: State of Georgia. Indexes of Vital Records for Georgia: Deaths, 1919-1998. Georgia, USA: Georgia Health Department, Office of Vital Records, 1998.

The Social Security Death Index shows that the Lena who died in Georgia was born on 6 Jan 1889 and that her Social Security card was issued in Massachusetts, which fits with her residence in Massachusetts in 1950, as shown in Wendy's answer..(U.S., Social Security Death Index, 1935-2014  [Ancestry.com.database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations Inc, 2011. Number: 014-14-5829; Issue State: Massachusetts; Issue Date: Before 1951)
