I suggest you try the free search tool at https://familysearch.org/search and enter what data you do know to start your search, such as approximate date/year and Country of birth; any parents names etc.  You then can often work backwords so to speak - from parents and siblings to grandparents etc. such as the example of James son of William and Rebecca. 

There are some examples below, however you didn't provide any dates or locations so these may not be related as these James 'C' Hudnell's who were born all over the US.   There were many more records for James Hudnell/Hudnail/Hudnall on that site without middle name or initial!

My father was Robert Hudnell, son of James Clinton Hudnell and Mary Lovisa Gilkey Hudnell. My father told me that Mary Lovisa Gilkey was Cherokee and I am trying to trace her roots. He also told me he was fostered out for a while and that he had a twin. I met his father when I was in Ohio (at 11 years old) as well as his brother Don.  I am hopeful that we can get in contact since you must be my aunt or my uncle and I have no contact with his family anymore.
