* Note I'm not sure if this is him or if it is him and it's an error on his death date because I have a 1880 census and the Indiana death index say that he died in 1901 not 1865.

*Also the 1880 census States that his mother, Louisa D. Ward Selby was born in Indiana but I have her born in Kentucky. But since I don't know who her parents are (see previous G2G question today) I really can't verify her being born in Kentucky.

This doesn't answer the question of what happened to William, but in 1900 Viola is remarried, and living with the two youngest Selby children in CA.

Thats cool, Great info on new hubby and new daughter. Also it shows my great grandfather, Roy Joshua Selby.  Good to know he had a half-sister, too.

It appears that the William who died in 1901was married to Jane/Elizabeth Kilpatrick seen below.  Don't know who the William married to Viola is, in the 1880 census that you show.

Thank you for taking the time to help me out the William Selby that I'm related to was definitely married to Viola Millet. I appreciate that you found out that the William who died in Indiana is not my William Selby in fact now that I think about it he should have died in California since I do have his 1880 census.
I wrote to the customer service on the website that carries the digitized information for the Civil War records giving them the same information. I will have to let them know at the Indiana death record is not for him. All I know is that if he died in the Civil War then he wouldn't have had children and would I still exist? Or would I exist and just look different? LOL
