Please check for Pre-1500 Certification on merges

I wanted to post this because so many people ask for help with Pre-1500 merges.   A couple things to think about:

First check to see if one of the profile managers is Pre-1500 certified, then you can ask for help directly from them.

Even if you are not Pre-1500 certified, you should approve the merge, you just cannot complete the merge.   The 30 day default should still apply, we want the input from the actual profile managers.

Any other thoughts on this subject?

Thanks for the reminder Robin! I've seen a couple of merges completed that shouldn't have been after someone requested help with a merge. I've also recently received several requests for assistance that resulted in hours of research on my part - I'm glad I did it though, as there was not a clear answer to be found in available sources & the profile managers/projects involved didn't all agree with the requested changes.  Cheers, Liz
I would say don't necessarily approve the merge if there is a question, you can put it as unmerged match if more research is needed.  I've come across too many profiles in 1600s already that were merged because of similarity of names, lots of them imported from ancestry, which does have a tendency to suggest things that are not researched properly.

Hi Robin, will bear this in mind - I've actually stayed away from Pre-1500 records and definitely merges.  Thank you.

I may have a look at the pre-1500 badge and requirements later.
