Magnus - I usually have the full link to a FamilySearch profile in my profiles. Their aim is the same as ours, one big tree, but with so many church members updating profiles the data can be confusing. And they have a severe duplicate problem.
Rosemary, you do not have to be a member of the LDS church to have profiles on familysearch.org or even to volunteer to help with indexing source material. The site is free and open to all who wish to use it.
I realise that Magnus. In fact I'm not LDS and try to keep my small sections of that tree as clean as possible. I've also done indexing for them.
The further I go back with my husband's line into Colonial Virginia the worse the duplicate problem becomes. This is apparently very common with colonial ancestry and there have been a number of blogs written about the problem.
