Help me understand the Error Program

+8 votes

The first error reported in my Watchlist is

Error 210: Father was dead before birth

This person's father died before birth so probably birth date or father's death date is wrong.

Paul Bredehoft-39, born 1776, died 1824

His father, Martin Bredehoft-23 was born in 1740, (or thereabouts) died in 1814.

This is the way I found it, two weeks ago. I’ve hunted all over, can’t find any “errors”, wonder why it’s still up there two Tuesdays later.

Also many that I have corrected, and or marked ‘False Error” are still there.

How about

Father is too young or not born

When no father is listed.

What am I doing wrong???

EDIT: Add question re: Father.

Paul Bredehoft died in 1824, but has son Johann who was born in 1828 and a daughter Adelheit who was born in 1832.

So the error is not with his father Martin, but with Paul who himself is the father who died before his children were born.

I see that, now. I'd checked the firstborn, didn't go beyond that.....

So it's the children not the father error.
Since both Johann and Adelheit have the last name Poppe it looks like they might be his grandchildren (from his daughter who married a Poppe) instead of his children.
Bingo.... thanks I'd just come to that.

At a guess, error 210 should be Child was born after father's death. But I suppose that's a different error.

200 errors are Errors connected to the father of the child. If in doubt there are two Rel. (Relation) columns, stating relation between two persons involved in an error.
