I live on Heronford Lane Rathmichael Dublin 18 (searchable on Google Map). Most people think that the lane is so called because, from the bridge, herons can be seen watching for fish. However on old maps, dating from the early 19th century before the bridge was built, the ford which preceded the bridge is shown as Heron's Ford. Am I right in thinking it is named after this family?
Any information would be much appreciated.
