Could you give us a little more information like when and/or where you think he might have been born.  Maybe other relatives that may be on WikiTree already.  Any information at all you can think of that might help the searcher find information for you on John Hooten.

The John Hooten I am searching for is from Tennessee; date of birth unknown. His wife was Emmaline Richarson marriage date unknown. Their children were: James, Francis Marion and Amanda. John died, supposedly in Klondike Tennesse cause unknown.

Emmaline married John Coulter; they lived in Missouri and Mr. Coulter adopted James, Francis Marion and Amanda as listed on a census record. James was killed in Fayetteville Arkansas in 1864 ; his son, James Francis Marion Hooten was born September 4 1864 and is my fraternal Grandfather. I am seeking proof of these events to continue my ancestral file. Any help would be most welcome! Shirley A. Goodman

I found a John H. Hooten (1778 -1852) http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hooten-90 who died in Tennessee,  searching here on Wiki Tree. 

Have you tried Family Search at https://familysearch.org/search/  

I tried Ancestry.com but they kept showing John Hooten born 1906 with Emmaline , nothing earlier...
