When you say you downloaded it, are you referring to downloading the raw data from say Ancestry.com?  If so this is a Zip file.  If so you need to upload it to a place that will let you compare your dna to that of others.  The largest such place (and free) is GEDmatch.com.  When I did this I got hundreds of matches, though the fact majority of them I have no idea of how they're related.  Some are easy to figure out by the name but most aren't.  I have one giant match who's a 1st cousin once removed., a number who have 1-2 largish matches and the rest are mostly one match GEDmatch does supply the e-mail of the matches, but do warn you to check the match 1 to 1 before e-mailing someone.  But you should have a bunch of matches you'll be able to contact and figure out how you're related.  Good Luck!
