Could John McClelland been the father Collin McClelland born about 1800 in either Schenectady or Saratoga County?

No, He wasn't  John McClellan (no D) his parents and siblings left Cherry Valley, Tyron County, NY after the Cherry Valley massacre of 11 Nov 1778, the family moved to the Niagara peninsula in Upper Canada, the family history is well documented in many sources.

Collin McClelland served U.S. Army 1818-1829,lived to be over 90 years old.

applied for a pension Feb 9 1891,pension was granted.Served in Indian campaigns

and guarded towns.Died Genesee County Michigan.

U.S Army Register of Enlistments 1798 1914. Found no record of his father.

I'm descended from Collin McClelland through his son, John C. McClelland of Niagara County, NY.  As you know, John McClelland's death record indicates Collin was born in Schenectady and Collin's military enlistment records indicate both Saratoga County and "Orange" in Saratoga County. "Orange" was the name for Halfmoon, NY in Saratoga County from 1816 to 1820.  I've found a McClelland family from Halfmoon at that time - Daniel McClelland who married Ursala Jacobs. I don't know whether these were Collin's parents, but it seems possible.  Also, Daniel McClelland and his son, Richard, lived up in Niagara County (like Collin McClelland) for several years before moving West to Iowa. And some trees have Daniel's father's name as "Colin McClelland", a Scottish immigrant who died in Saratoga County around 1800. Still trying to find a link between Collin McClelland and these other McClellands.

Colin was not a son of Daniel but may have been his uncle. Daniel had a brother William that could have been Colin's father. The Schenectady Historical Society indicates that a  William McClallan was listed in the 1800 census at that town and that he had a child under the age of ten.
