I get a blank page. There is a left column, but otherwise a blank page.  Is that what you intended?

Nope,

it should look like this

Which browser are you using, which operating system?

You need to enter a profile ID and click the tree errors button.  Worked fine for me.
I really like the addition of the privacy icons. That makes it quick work to determine if I even want to look at an error.

Would it be possible to add lines between the profiles. I have trouble following the record across when a record has wrapped some fields.

Thanks for all you're doing with this project.
Nice Aleš!

Suggestion: users  may be confused with the mix of "hide" and "show" checkboxes. I would rename "Hide active errors"  to "Show active errors" with checkbox checked by default.
Spelling nit:

"temporarly" should be "temporarily"

@Eric,

temporarily fixed (No spellchecker in development environment)

@Jan,

I know, but it is default behaviour with all unchecked. Allready used in such way from all links in Wikitree, so it is hard to change. I was adding checkboxes one by one.

@Debi,

It would be, but I will try to write error in 2 lines, so no scrolling is needed. View in errors by location.

Aleš,

Very nice. Here are some observations.

1. I've been printing the page and the old format and it worked well to use as a check list. The side bar takes up lot of space in the new layout. A Print button that display the old naked view might be nice.

2. Reports>Ancestors is kind of cool. Link would be nice and on the number of errors column. On mydata (Lenover-1) it goes to negative numbers at generation 65. It then get non-sensical.

3. Statistics did not seem to be working. Message "Error in SDMS Server" regardless of value chosen.

4. On one/some of the gender reports (original style) you use the term "bi-sexual". That generally has a sexual meaning, not a genealogical one in the US at least, Can't comment about UK usage. You may just want to say something like "Both"
1. I will look into this. It should be possible.

2. At generation 64 overflow happens, but there never were so many people living on earth. I will stop writing it at level 20.

3. I restarted my server, and it works now. I have some RAM issues, that needs to be corrected.

4. Don't you use terms like "bisexsual name", I know for term "unisex" for clothes. What would be appropriate? "Both" is too general i think. Any other suggestions?
I agree with Debi, please add lines between the rows.

Can you make the left panel collapsible? It takes up too much screen real estate (I tend to not run my browser full screen, as it makes it easier for me to switch between windows, or work between overlapping windows)

another spelling nit: Statistics table list, "Mariges"?

Ancestor report: past 64 generations seems a bit meaningless? The first time I tried it, it seemed to have a much smaller cutoff, but now goes up to 96 generations?

Watchlist, password field not encripted (why is password needed?)

>> I agree with Debi, please add lines between the rows.

I am working on 2 line look. Preview is available in errors by location.

>> Can you make the left panel collapsible?

I tried it from my phone yesterday and that bothered me too. I will change that.

>> another spelling nit: Statistics table list, "Mariges"?

Corrected.

>> Ancestor report: past 64 generations seems a bit meaningless? The first time I tried it, it seemed to have a much smaller cutoff, but now goes up to 96 generations?

I don't have a cutoff. Some new relation was added somewhere, so you have more generations.

>> Watchlist, password field not encrypted (why is password needed?)

It is not done yet. It will be *****. It is needed to get user's watchlist from wikitree's  apps server. I am not even sure if I could make it work from my site. I just wish to put it here.

Aleš,

- Left panel being collapsable would probably be a solution to my printing issue.

- I'd also suggest 64 not 20 for the ancestors as Dennis mentioned. I have some deep roots an could use that to cleanup some old pre-1500. and possibly find a few BCE profiles that people have entered.

- "Restart my server" - I'm a software product manager by day - how many times I have that from my engineering team?

- In regards to the word bisexual, it not a big issue for me, more just odd wording for me. I certainly knew what you meant by the context. If no else finds it an odd choice of words I'd leave it as and move on to more important matters.

Bisexual is not a good defenition, it belongs in the range homo, hetro, bisexual. So it is not a gender.

For gender we have male, female, and I guess hermaphrodite.
Since there is apparently no word for what we need, maybe Unisex would be the best word. Like for clothing.

Changed.
Meant for names used by both man and woman, "unisex" seems right for me.
If you need to enter a profile ID in the left-hand panel to see anything in the right-hand panel, then there should be some instruction to do so. Otherwise, it's not clear what one would do on this page.

I entered my user ID, and kept the selection to the default 8 generations. It only gave me two generations.

I then emptiedout that field and went down to Full names. I entered Smith and kept the default to 1000. Then I clicked on the "Name Errors" button. Nothing happened. Repeated again, entering "John Smith" - nothing happened.

Watchlists generates a message "to be done". Also the password box should not display the password, but only ***
You could use "ambiguous" for names where the gender is not clear.
How about M/F ?
Or Gender Neutral, or unspecified gender.

Jillaine Smith, did you read this?
Note: Private profiles are not part of public database so if your parents are private, enter grandparents.
And did you try again?

After entering Smith, you have to be patient an wait maybe 30 seconds.
Then you'll find 990 error-records.

It's excellent! I didn't understand it before ... much better! Awesome tool :)
Biological genders are male, female, and intersex. These are based on the DNA of the individual.

Social genders often corresponds to biological genders, but is discovered as the individual grows from infant to child to adult and may change over time, and by self identification.

Biological gender is similar to vital statistics, such as birth date and place.

Social gender is similar to occupations or religions.

Both these genders are important, but the biological gender is typically of more interest in genealogy because lineage linked genealogy is based on biological relationships. Because we also care about adoptive relationships because of the significance of both nature and nurture in human development, social gender is also interesting.

Both types of gender are important but social gender should never be confused with or replace the biological gender.

Looking at location: Noord-Holland, I get 475 errors.
When I click Hide active errors I still get 475 errors
When I click all three 47 errors are shown
But when I click Hide active and one of the other two then zero errors are shown.

I really like the possibility of a Watchlist errors field, as I have many European Aristocrat profiles I have adopted and it would be great to get a list of errors in those profiles.

Just wondering if they should also should have an ability to limit the number of errors? Like the fullname field.
by John Atkinson G2G6 Pilot (619k points)
Why? is it a problem? Until now watchlist  request had maximum of 800 errors.
Sorry, I obviously need to read things more carefully, I didn't realise that a Watchlist search already existed.  Though I did get 1028 errors.

Being able to limit the number I think would still be helpful?
Why limit.... it will soon be 0...

I realized that I was on the trusted list of many odd profiles so I took away myself.... from the trusted list.... maybe not an optimal way of getting less problems but I get a watchlist that is more me... ;-)
At the moment watch list is limited to 5000 profiles, so only first 5000 was checked. On new interface, i will make it possible to navigate through watchlist in chunks. But as Magnus said, your list will reduce, as you will correct the errors.

Aleš Trtnik the watchlist url would be an candidate to send out in the "Weekly" email as they did last.... Maybe not sending the "Weekly" email to everyone the same day could make the load less.... high....

Good thing with the watchlist solution is that you fast find odd things you have done lately.....

I finished 2 line errors. Preview is available in errors by location. I will use this for all errors, also on prepared static lists.

Also all links open in new tab, so you just close it and no need to use back button.

not keen on putting my password into a third party site that is not secure.
by Gillian Causier G2G6 Pilot (293k points)
I agree. Additionally, several of us have discovered that our workplaces prevent access to Database Errors, which leads me to think that someone believes there are more serious security issues than lack of https. Maybe port 92 is considered to be a security risk?
Well, Wikitree is also working on http protocol. so you are already putting your password on unsecure server. But I don't see that as a problem, since you don't manage money on wikitree.

Port 92 is not standard port for http protocols, and some firewalls do block it. Since Errors project is hosting on my company's servers, port 80 is already used for my business. I can try to buy additional IP, so we could use port 80 for Wikitree.

Watch list is done over wikitree's APPS server. It is not possible differently. It openes in new tab, where you have to login to apps.wikitree.com server, if you dont have automatic login. But options,

  • Show temporarily hidden errors
  • Show ignored errors
  • Hide active errors

are included so you can see only false errors on your watchlist. Check desired options and then click Go to apps server

Also maximum size of watchlist is increased from 5K to 10K profiles.

I checked one profile to see how the results looked. This is easier to follow on the "after death" type errors. One over the other is easier to follow than side by side. The "control" panel is an improvement. Only checking one profile is hardly a good test. If I find any difficulties, I'll comment later.
