Diane,

Apparently you think that uploading a gedcom-file is enough to get its data into Wikitree. That is not the case, it requires multiple steps, please review the help pages on GEDCOM for more information, especially "Be prepared to spend time on GEDCompare".

When not importing a gedcom-file after uploading it, it is automatically deleted by the system after one month, so it was gone by the midst of February.

Thanks... Jan
Thanks for your reply Jan. But I did do the Comparison and checked which of the names already there were the same profiles as my ancestors and I thought that I had done all that was required. I don't believe there were any matches except for ones that I had already posted myself.

I didn't receive any communication from Wikitree to indicate that my gedcom was not appropriate or that it would be deleted. I have sent people, Dna cousins etc, to look at it because I thought it was all there.

Re Diane as we try to work together on one big family tree we have in the WikiTree Honor code that says

  1. We cite sources. Without sources we can't objectively resolve conflicting information.

Doing genealogy is a never ending work and having one big family tree means that we need to have sources that also an old man in the North of Europe understands and can find...

It's a learning process for all of us and also WikiTree is learning how to support users the best way to work together....

See my latest G2G post where I try to find a way of document what profiles in a family are correct and not duplicates which means we need to agree if there is a name change or not when they left Sweden for Iowa etc... not easy and its a learning process based on using good sources that you correlate and analyse

Diane,

I am not sure but I guess that after you reviewed and processed the GEDCompare you did not approve the fiile for import.

If you still want to import the Gedcom file you can start the process again, and report any problems here, with tag "gedcom".

Thanks Jan, I will do that. I still feel there is a lot I don't know here, but it seems people are willing to share info.
