Seeking ancestors using DNA

General Question:  Does WikiTree accept raw DNA data in order to help find surname matches?  I want to validate relationships in order to find my ggggrandfather.

Thanks,
Kathy

Hi Kathy, WikiTree does not handle DNA raw data.  Instead, information about each DNA test a person participated in is entered on the actual test participant's profile.  For instance, there might be information added to a man's profile about his yDNA test including his haplogroup and kit number.

Each bit of DNA test information is propagated up and down family lines based on the type of test.  So, a man's yDNA test will show on his paternal ancestors profiles.  My autosomal DNA test is displayed on all of my family lines for about eight generations.  Here is my list of autosomal DNA ancestors.  I am the big Cooper at the top, the next line is my parents, and the next line is my grandparents, etc.  http://www.wikitree.com/treewidget/Cooper-1/10

This is probably more detail than you wanted.  The short answer is no, WikiTree does not store or analyze the raw data.
