We have just set up the Boswell One Name Study, which now links to a "Boswell Mysteries and Brick Walls" page. So far we have three Boswell ancestors that are acting as brick walls listed on this new page. Can you help with more information about thesepeople? If you have any Boswell ancestors you might like to join the one name study, and if you have any Boswell brick walls you might like to add them to this new page.

I was trying to connect the Bosvile-Macdonalds, but there's a long gap in the Gunthwaite line that I couldn't find any information on.
I have a tree from Sir Robert de Bosville to the present day based on several sources, but primarily on the work of Jasper John Boswell. This shows the first mention of Gunthwaite as being owned by John Boswell (1416-1441) of Newhall, Ardsley, and Gunthwaite. His line continues down to William Boswell of Gunthwaite & Thorpe (1745-1813) also of Welbeck Street, London. I have no male descendants after that, but his sister Elizabeth Diana Bosville (1748-1789) is shown as marrying in 1768 Alexander, 1st Barn Macdonald of Slate in Ireland, who died in 1795. Could that be the connection? I have recently added part of this line  back to 1596 but had to obtain pre-1500 certification to be able to extend it further back, but I can now carry on with that.
Elizabeth Diana Bosville is Bosville-11
Yes, I hooked up Diana's mother's side but I didn't have the ancestry of Diana's father.  I didn't realise you'd filled it in since I last looked.
I'm glad it helped. Always nice to join things up. I will check the connections are complete all the way back to Robert de Bosville (De_Bosville-3) who arrived with William the Conqueror.
I am looking for the parents of my Great Grandfather Jasper L. Boswell born July 22, 1866 died in Bonifay, FL November 15, 1957. He was married to Mary Boswell born in 1971. I hope some has some information.
The place Bonifay, FL suggests a link to the family found by Frank Gill in answer to another question on this page from Kay Gilbert. It may be that George T Boswell, born 1864, the head of that family was related to, or even a brother of, your Jasper L Boswell born 1866. It's a possible starting point.
Robert S Boswell my grandfather is from Bonifay Fl . There are a lot of Boswells in Bonifay still

I'm new to genealogy and am just starting to build a family tree....so please have patience.  My husband's grandmother was a Boswell, Ethel Ruby (Boswell) Gilbert, then Westbrook, born September 13, 1900 in Bonifay, Florida, .and died August 29, 1998.  Her mother was Ida Lee Davis and her father was George Thomas Bowell.  They lived in Bonifay , Florida and later Port St. Joe, Fl. I haven't started researching this branch of the family yet so I have no idea if these Boswells are tied into yours. Ethel had 4 siblings:  Corvin, Berle, Myrell and Lilly.  Any info you could give me would be appreciated.  Thanks Kay Gilbert

It looks like you are already getting some good answers from other Wikitreers. I am keen to link up the USA Boswell Families with early immigrant Boswells and the ancient UK Boswell lines, and will be developing a page for that soon. However, information on the early immigrants is thin. We also now have a page for Boswell Brick Walls, so if you come up against one, we can put it on there. Good luck with your searches.

Alan I am interested in joining your one name study. My great Grandmother was a Buswell who came from the Clipston, Northamptonshire Buswells.  I've got the line back to John Buswell , Buswell-441, Born 1796 in Clipston. Now I've hit a bit of a brick wall and haven't proven who his father is although I have hints.
