Suggestions for name search function...

I see that LNAB name variants are now part of the search function. YEAH! Even better, it can be turned on & off!

How difficult would it be to add an option to limit a search to the LNAB only, so that the results don't include the current last name or other last names? Most of my searches are for the LNAB only -- I don't want to see people who weren't born with that name. Problem is, too many of my searches pick up over 100 results, even with the 2-yr restriction. And I can't limit it any more, since I often don't have an exact birth date, or sometimes not even a formal given name -- just a nickname.

The other option that would help tremendously (but I think would be much harder to implement, because it's a field not currently examined) is adding a limit on results based on sex...

Hi Kitty,

Because of the two-step process we use to return search results, filtering by gender would actually be much easier to do than only searching LNABs.

Filtering by gender wouldn't make a huge difference in the searches I do, but it would help. For example, when I'm looking for a woman named Elisabeth or Elizabeth or Eliza, my search string is Eli*, and I don't want to bother with results for men named Eli or Elisha.

I've wondered, in the search results, and in the Surname Index, is there a reason that the Birth Date returns both the date and the location?  It seems like separating those so you could sort by birth date or by birth location would be way more useful than having them as one field.
Huh. Just goes to prove that even a software guru can be surprised by how a different environment works. Does that mean that limiting a search to the LNAB is difficult, or just not quite as easy as the other?
