Dear Donna,

A Lucius Strickland is listed in the 1840 census of Waterbury VT:

"United States Census, 1840," database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XHY6-X3T : 24 August 2015), Lucius Strickland, Waterbury, Washington, Vermont, United States; citing p. 361, NARA microfilm publication M704, (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.), roll 546; FHL microfilm 27,441.

You might also want to check the David & Tryphena Strickland family.  David is of an age to be a brother to your two, and has a man with him in his 1860 listing who could be his father.

"United States Census, 1860", database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MFDH-FXL : 30 December 2015), David Strickland, 1860.

Hope this helps!  -NGP

Hi Donna,

My 2X great grandfather was John R. Strickland, for to Cephus Strickland and Amy Eldred Strickland in Cato, New York, ca 1820. I know that he had a brother named Leander; but have never heard of a Vermont connection. By all means, look over and compare my Strickland records, we may have a connection!

Best wishes,

I have the probate of Leander Francis Strickland and Cephus Strickland is listed as one of the administrators.  However I cannot see your tree and I need to be added to the trusted list in order to review.  I read an article about Lucius Strickland that said that there were several brothers that moved from Vermont to Oswego County.  Any additional information would be helpful.  I found the census of 1850 that Cephus lived next door to Lucius Strickland.
