Seeking information on James F Hughes

+3 votes
I've been searching for years for more information about my great-grandfather, James F Hughes.  I believe he was born in Tennessee, possibly in October 1852 and died in Texas at an unknown date, but after 1900, since he was listed on the 1900 Federal Census, living in Freestone County, Texas, but not the 1910 Census.  There is a James F Hughes on the 1910 Census, but not the right one.  I also found that he married my great-grandmother Derinda Tidwell in 1886 in Freestone County.  That's all that I have about him.  Does anyone know who his parents or siblings were?  How can I find out more?

Hughes is one of those names census enumerators spell in many ways.  You should find and post a link for the 1930 and 1940 census for your mother and any siblings she may have had and then the four censuses for your grandfather with siblings as well.  This could establish some depth to your research and make it easier or at least yield more results.  Success!

Thank you!  I have searched FamilySearch, Find My Past, Mocavo, Ancestry and others. . .even the "search all variations of name," and never came up with Dirinda or Tedwell in my searches.  I have no idea why this is so.  If you notice, the name Tedwell actually looks as if there is a dot to the far right of the first "e," which would make the name "Tidwell."  Again, thank you for answering this and helping me immensely.
From what you say, it sounds like it could have well been Tidwell, and that seems to be more probable.
