A Hogg in a Partridge Tree?

A merge has been proposed of two profiles for John Partridge.  They are both shown as being married to Jane Hogg.  It appears that there has been a mix-up of several John Partridges, perhaps mixing generations.

The John Partridge who died at Olney, Buckinghamshire in about 1648, left a Will in which he mentions "his then wife Frances," who survived him.  He does not mention a wife Jane or any children by wife Jane.  He does mention son William and Henry Gaines, (who was probably the husband of Jane Partridge, daughter of John). He says in his Will that son William Partridge and others mentioned were or had been in New England. The estate of Jane Gaines, wife of Henry Gaines, mentions that there was still outstanding money owed from a legacy from John Partridge.

There is a record for the marriage of a John Partridge and a Jane Hogg on 11 May 1619 at St. Gregory by St. Pauls, London, London, England.

On Wikitree and in many online trees, one of the John Partridges is shown as the son of Bartholemew Partridge and his wife Pernell Green.

The only evidence I can find FOR ANYTHING, is:

  • the marriage of a John Partridge to Jane Hogge in London;
  • the Will of a John Partridge in Buckinghamshire;
  • the estate papers for Jane Gaines showing the outstanding legacy.

Questions:

  • Is there any evidence of the marriage of a John Partridge to Frances, probably in Buckinghamshire?
  • Is there evidence for the birth of children?
  • Is there evidence for the birth of Jane Hogg/Hogge?

That profile looks as sound as Frankenstein's Monster. Just for a start the John Partridge with a father Bartholomew was born in 1590.

Name     John Partridge
Gender     Male
Christening Date     21 Feb 1590
Christening Place     ST MARTIN LUDGATE,LONDON,LONDON,ENGLAND
Father's Name    Bartholomewe Partridge

"England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JS15-V6X : 6 December 2014), John Partridge, 21 Feb 1590; citing ST MARTIN LUDGATE,LONDON,LONDON,ENGLAND, reference ; FHL microfilm 374,476, 374,477

There was a Jane Hogge born in Stepney 1598 who might have been the same one who married in St Gregory's in 1619 but I doubt even that.

Name     Jane Hogge
Gender     Female
Christening Date     29 Jun 1598     Christening Place     SAINT DUNSTAN,STEPNEY,LONDON,ENGLAND
Father's Name    Thomas Hogge

"England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:J3CP-KML : 6 December 2014), Jane Hogge, 29 Jun 1598; citing SAINT DUNSTAN,STEPNEY,LONDON,ENGLAND, reference ; FHL microfilm 595,417

There is also a Jane Hogg born 1581 in Cheddington, Bucks who might well be a better fit for a 1578 John Partridge.

Name     Jane Hogg
Gender     Female
Christening Date     1581
Christening Place     , CHEDDINGTON, BUCKINGHAM, ENGLAND
Father's Name    Jefrey Hogg

"England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:ND4S-7Q8 : 6 December 2014), Jane Hogg, 1581; citing Cheddington, Buckinghamshire, England, reference - 2:14G36VK; FHL microfilm 1,042,377

This is interesting ... a Jane Partridge born to John and Jane in 1621 in the same parish as Jane Hogge (1598).

On the other hand here's an Elizabeth Partridge from the same parish as the 1619 marriage

Name     Elizabeth Partridge
 Gender     Female
 Christening Date     20 Feb 1632
Christening Place     SAINT GREGORY BY SAINT PAUL,LONDON,LONDON,ENGLAND

This is the Frances Patridge who was married to John Partridge:

Thanks Matthew, Glad to see that you (and Jillaine, who started me thinking about this) agree that this is a mess.

I'm sure part of the problem is the proliferation of Johns and Janes.  Also, people may have seen St. Peter and St. Paul and thought it was the same as St. Gregory by St. Paul.

Now, to figure out how to tease it apart!
