How can Mary born Shook, that married John Haynes in 1814 be the mother of Rebecca Shook. Rebecca was not born til 1824, so she is not an illegitimate child. She is the child of Joseph Shook born abt 1792 and died before 1840 and Mary Baker. The current mother is wrong.

If you look at the 1840 census image it shows some names you will recognize and Mary is head of household.

If you look at the 1850 census image even though transcribed as born New York, the image clearly shows NC not NY. Mary has a son Joseph age 13, so thats one of Rebecca's sibblings. You will also see Hoopers and on the next page you will see another son of Joseph and Mary "Daniel" age 23

The child Joseph mentioned above is Joseph Lawrence Shook born 1837. Find a Grave lists his father as Joseph, but Mary E as mother, not Mary A.

Joseph Lawrence is on WikiTree but unfortunately made private but listed with the wrong second wife. Joseph first married Matilda Clementine Parris and 2nd to Lettie Mason

No worries Donnie. I have done Daniel Shook the brother of Joseph Lawrence Shook brothers of Rebecca (Shook) Wilson
http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Shook-453 unfortunatley the manager of both Daniel and Joseph Lawrence has closed of parts of the line. They are not connected but she has both profiles so she will know they are brothers.
Joseph the father appears not to have left a will but as Joseph Lawrence Shook was what they would at the time term an orphan (even though his mothers alive) i may get something from the orphan bonds of Haywood or Jackson County NC
