My name is Mark Timbrook and I am a direct descendant of Wessel Wesselen ten Broeck 1636-1704. I am interested in joining the project.
Awesome Mark! Have you already signed up for Wikitree? I couldn't find your profile.

My New Netherland ancestors include Frederick De Voe and Esther Tourneur, Dinah (De Veaux) Tourneur and Lewis Guion, Resolved Waldron, Aeltie Waldron and Johannes Vermelje/Vermillie, Rachel Vermelye, Isaac Vermeille and Jacomina Jacobs. Would love to join this project.

I, William Cantrell Schroeder, Senior, descendant of Jan Gerrits (Strijcker) Stryker (Strijcker-10) want to say hi y'all, and I will follow through one of these days on the necessary actions to become a member of this excellent group of people, if you would have me.

And hello to all.

Respectfully,

Bill Schroeder (Schroeder-731)
Hello there! Working on my Blauvelt, Conklin and Babcock lines and would love to add anything I can to this project.
Hi, My research shows I'm a descendant of Cornelius Hendrickson and Rev. William Leverich.  I am interested in knowing more by connecting the information available.
I'm interested. I've found several of my ancestors were New Netherlands settlers. I'm particularly interested in the Palen and Middagh families.
Hi Carrie,

I would like to be added to this project. I am a direct descendant of Hanna Montanye and Monseir de la Montague.

Thanks, Andrea Schneider
Hey cousin - me too
Haha, nice to meet you!!!

Yes Carrie added me to it this past week.

Hello Carrie,

I am not there yet, but I do plan to volunteer when I have worked my way through the branches that far back.
by James Applegate G2G6 Mach 5 (57.3k points)

Hi James! You can be a member while working on your own family but it's here when you're ready. And you would certainly be a descendant of Thomas Applegate, patentee of Vlissingen (Flushing).

I'll have to get that one on my watch list. I was thinking of http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Vernooy-6 Cornelius Vernooy, and several brickwall profiles in the Ulster area.

Hello,

My name is Judith (Weeks) Ancell.  A good share of my ancestry is through the early Dutch and French Huguenot settlers.  My line goes back through the Abram/Abraham Schuyler who was the interpreter and silver smith.  The Huguenot lineage is through Louis duBois and Catherine Blanchan.  Hopefully I am able to contribute some of my research to this project.

I would love to be a part of the New Netherlands Project.  I have been researching my ancestry for over 40 years and love the fact that we have so many more tools to use today.

Sadly I have lost the ability to create a GedCom through the failure of t he FTW program.  I am now using Roots Magic and slowly rebuilding my database entering my data by hand.  I feel it is time to share the work that I have done and pass it on to the next generation of genealogists.

Although I have not had a DNA test my nephew who carries the Weeks name has the 111 marker and is generous in sharing it.

Sincerely,

Judith Weeks Ancell

Hi Judith! You now have the badge. Enjoy!
I have Louis du Bois and Catharine Blanchan in my tree. I also have Schuyler's but no Abram (yet). I have a huge tree on ancestry.com that is public and named, Rivenbark, McLendon, Bridges, Major Family Tree. I haven't compared all of it to WikiTree. You are welcome to look at it. Perhaps, as you add to your tree you will find a connection to the Roosevelts, as I did.

My brother's Y-DNA test on FTDNA has a match to a Weeks.
I just found a probable link to Catherine Blanchan's sister Magdalena last week. I'm still carefully combing through the "knots" to prove the line though.
Randy,

I do not belong to ancestry and am therefore blocked from the site as far as looking at any family tree.  I have done a great deal of Weeks research over the years.  I would be glad to see if I have any research or connection to the Weeks family that you have in your tree.

Sincerely,

Judith (Weeks) a

Hi Carrie,

Terhune 304 here, I am looking to join. We came from France to Netherlands to New York in 1600's. I have just joined Wikitree and am in process of merging the info from my line with ancestors further down. This has been very interesting and I am hoping to be able to gather information and to provide information. Thanks

Hi  New Netherland Settler Group.

I would be interested in joining the New Netherland Settlers Project.I  work with New Netherland Settlers and their Descendants in the 1600 and 1700's.

Appreciate all the work being done by all involved to create a realistic picture of the New Netherland population during that period.

Thanks for your consideration,

Skeeter Lansing

After all of our efforts together, I had no idea you weren't a project member, Skeeter!
I thought it was time to stop lurking and become a contributor
Welcome aboard, Skeeter! Indeed at this point you've probably earned multiple scout badges as well. Thank you!

I'm relatively new to the New Netherlands research. I found an ancestor (Maria Schuyler) was from Albany - and found many of her ancestors using the Dutch Reformed Church's documents. I'm still looking for exact documentation of her husband's (Benjamin Davenport) family and lineage, but I'm having fun with the Dutch Line and learning more about the Dutch colonial experience (and the Scottish branch too!)
by Sarah Krans G2G2 (2.9k points)
Hi Sarah! I think the Dutch are pretty fun to research because they really liked to record things.

Hello, New Netherland Group!

I was surprised to discover my Dutch ancestry recently, and to be perfectly honest, the names themselves are what drew me to volunteer for this group. I still have to finish moving my Ancestry.com tree to Wikitree, but some of my direct ancestors include Knickerbocker-150, Bogaert-92, and Volckertszen-7. It seems that the Dutch manner of naming differs from what I'm used to (especially in regards to passing down surnames), but I'll do my best to acquaint myself with the system. I hope I can be of help in the project!

Welcome aboard, Molly! You now have a shiny badge. The names are very tricky but we try to stick to documented forms. If you have any questions about a name, please feel free to ask.

I am interested in joing the New Netherland Settlers Project, and would appreciate guidance as I am likely to soon be adding Hendrick Wiertse Banta, son of Wiert Epkes (Epkens on WikiTree? Wiert Epkens).  This will connect one of my Banta lines on to the rest of the WikiTree, as I descend from Hendrick's son Jan.
by Brian Almond G2G3 (3.6k points)

Welcome, Brian! You should be fine. The only thing that might be unusual due to the naming conventions that the project uses is that Hendrick would have a "LNAB" of Wiertse, the patronymic that appears in his marriage record, because he was born before the family used a surname.

* 1685 Apr 08 Henricus, Weirt Epkens, Gerritje Jillis. Wit.: Johannes Mandeviel, Grietie Mandeviel.
* 1715 Feb 04 Banta, Hendrick Weirtse, y.m., and Trintie Loots, y.d., both b. and l. Ackinsack.

* 1723 Jun 03 Jan, Hendrik Weirse Bantha, Trijntie Loots. Wit.: Johannes Loots, Geesie Loots.

Greetings,

I am a direct descendant of several original dutch settlers in New Netherlands and would like to join the New Netherlands Settlers Project.

I live less than an hour from Albany, New York and have visited the New York State Museum but have not yet done research in the library.

Thank you for the work contributed.

Kim Schultz (my mother's maiden name is Slover)

Welcome to the project, Kim! I bet the library would be a fun place to do research.

I am Sheran Cooper McCants and I am a seventh great granddaughter of Claes Claesen Sluyter-17. The various spellings of this family in Dutch and English records make documenting this family challenging. I have a copy of a gedcom with the notes from Charles A Slater used in his book on the first six generations of Claes Sluiter (which I'm willing to share).

My great-great grandmother  (and brick wall) was Susan Sisco-44, from Ivy Mills Tennessee. Her daughter, my great grandmother, Phebe Turner-7212, b. 1834, was a ward of her Aunt Phoebe Ann Turner-7231 and John (Francisco) Sisco-38 in November 1845. This is the Southern branch of the Sisco-Francisco family which migrated to the Carolinas.

Thank you for all you do!

Welcome aboard, Jeanne! Oh that's tough. And 19th century New York is unforgiving; so many of my brickwalls stop there. Here's hoping that DNA and global trees help break these walls!

Hi Carrie,

My interest in NA began while i was researching my Hagewout ancestors (early/mid 1600s), i have yet to find a link between my Hagewout family and the Hagewout/Lefferts family of Flatbush (although both came from the same part of NL and same time frame).

Things really kicked off when i read Russell Shorto's "Amsterdam", this was the first time I heard of Joris Rapalje and Cat Trico.

Since then i've spent hundreds of enjoyable hours (and a couple of hundred frustrating ones) sifting thru the DRC records of the colony, reading Zabinski and Bergen and Google, google, googling,
by Alex Moes G2G1 (1.2k points)

Hi Alex! Welcome. Oh man that has to be rough given the number of surnames that are related to the Hagewout family in America.

Shorto has done a lot for New Netherland. He has a podcast you may be interested in: http://www.newnetherlandinstitute.org/history-and-heritage/additional-resources/new-netherland-praatjes/

Hello Carrie,

I am interested in joining the New Netherlands Project. I have come across your name and contributions on several occasions in my Kuykendall research. I am related only by marriage by find the family line very intriguing. I have done extensive research on this family and I manage a large number of profiles here. Still trying to sort out a few missing pieces of the puzzle though.
by T Lacey G2G6 Mach 3 (34.3k points)

Hi Tony! Same here, many cousins married Kuykendalls, including folks that were never even close to New York. Welcome!

Greetings!  I am interested in joining the New Netherland Settlers Project. While I still have much work to do on my own family tree, I'd like to add appropriate profiles to this project. I also enjoy working on other non-direct descendant relatives as I stumble upon them.

I appear to have multiple persons who would fit in this project but just one example is Cornelis Cornelisz van Voorhout (abt. 1621 - aft. 1668). His wikitree ID is van_Voorhout-5.

Hi, My name is Bonita (Ellis) McPherren and I am interested in joining the project. I am a descendant of Lambert (Huijbertsen) Brink, Huijbertsen-1. I also noticed my maiden name on the list. I have hit a brick wall with my gg grandfather, Ellis-9464, so maybe this will help me while I help here.
by Bonita McPherren G2G6 Mach 1 (19.6k points)
Hi Bonita! I see the Ellis name quite often and also wonder if the instance ties back to Bastiaen.
