My New Netherland ancestors include Frederick De Voe and Esther Tourneur, Dinah (De Veaux) Tourneur and Lewis Guion, Resolved Waldron, Aeltie Waldron and Johannes Vermelje/Vermillie, Rachel Vermelye, Isaac Vermeille and Jacomina Jacobs. Would love to join this project.

And hello to all.

Respectfully,

Bill Schroeder (Schroeder-731)
Hello there! Working on my Blauvelt, Conklin and Babcock lines and would love to add anything I can to this project.
Hi, My research shows I'm a descendant of Cornelius Hendrickson and Rev. William Leverich.  I am interested in knowing more by connecting the information available.
I'm interested. I've found several of my ancestors were New Netherlands settlers. I'm particularly interested in the Palen and Middagh families.
Hi Carrie,

I would like to be added to this project. I am a direct descendant of Hanna Montanye and Monseir de la Montague.

Thanks, Andrea Schneider

Hi, Carrie,

Formerly a teacher, now an avid (obsessed?) genealogist. Proud member and office holder for Crane's Ford Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and current applicant in both the Society of Daughters of Holland Dames via my direct great grandfathers Jan Wynantz and Cornelis Melijn and the Descendants of the Founders of New Jersey via my direct great grandfathers Ogden, Hatfield, Woodruff, Clark, Ross, Potter and Baldwin.

In addition, I enjoy membership in the following genealogical organizations: National Genealogical Society, Pennsylvania Historical Society, New Jersey Historical Society, New England Historic Genealogical Society, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

And finally, as a family relative, it is my honor to serve as Grand Writer and Consultant for The Levi Cory House and The Deacon Andrew Hetfield House for the Mountainside Historical Restoration Committee, which I have recently been honored to be accepted as a member.

I do both paid and volunteer genealogical work and look forward to contributing to this community on WikiTree, now, as well. Thanks! ~Valeri J Shafer

Greetings, Carrie Quackenbush...

I am finally back to this branch of our family tree and did manage to get the New Netherlands settlers followed tag added to my list.  I am not sure how much help I could be on this project, but it is something very near and dear to my heart.  Our followed family name would be van Valkenburg.

Looking forward to making new discoveries with the group!

I have been working quite a bit in the related :[[Space:New Sweden|New Sweden Project]] and am now starting some work on that part of my line that is specifically New Netherland such as Teunis Cornelise Swart, Jan Gerritsen Decker, van der Linde, van Slyck, Westercamp, etc. So it is time to join the project and learn what I can.
by Jim Angelo G2G6 Mach 6 (62.8k points)
Welcome Jim! I recognize that bunch. One wouldn't think there would be so many ways to spell Decker but it's true. :)

I would be interested in joining this project.  I was able to connect some of my ancestors from the mid- to late 1700s through the Schenck and Sutphen, i.e., Sutphin, families in Hunterdon and Monmouth Counties in New Jersey -- both New Netherland descendants.
by Jon Schmaltz G2G Crew (870 points)
How's it going Jon! Were you able to find your ancestor's profiles with the cheat sheet?

Carrie, thanks.  Honestly, I've been so busy working on (and sometimes just staring at) information on other, "non-New Netherlands" profiles and relatives, that I haven't spent much time on ancestors with these surnames.  I have found the "Search for Ancestor Matches" (under https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:SearchPerson) and "Find Ancestor Matches" (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:FindMatches) to be very helpful.  Oddly enough, I find a number of profiles of people from appropriate time periods, e.g., 1740s to 1790s, with the same surnames in the same locations, especially Hunterdon County, New Jersey, but there is no direct relationship identified.  Probably just missing gaps in the tree, I suppose.

Naive question, but what exactly is the "cheat sheet" you're referring to?

Hello Carrie

I am the direct descendant of Willem Willemsen ( born in Bermuda in 1651)who married Mayken Wycoff in what is now Brooklyn NY in 1678.

He was the son of Willem Gerritsen.

My GG grandmother who married into the Williamson line was a De Nyse, a French Huguenot line that I have traced back to the 1600's

There are also many other founding families marrying into the Williamson line including Cozines, Lotts, Van Brunts, etc.

I would very mush like to be a part of the New Netherlands Settlers Project.

Thank you.

On my maternal side, I'm descended from two of Pieter Claesz Wyckoff's (Claesz-4) sons, Jan and Marten (two distant cousins married). I'm continually amazed how the generations fan out across the centuries. :)

Hello,

I'm interested in the New Netherlands Settler project. I'm descended from (of those I could find on a quick skim through your list compared to my tree):

Francois Le Sueur

Epke Jacobse Banta

Simon de Ruine

There are probably more but I skimmed very quickly. My tree on WikiTree is far from complete, I'm still working on filling out connections, making sure not to duplicate names, etc.

I've just joined the Dutch Roots Project and Bea Wijma suggested I also join this group.

Please add me to the membership. My wikitree profile is Brown-18795 and I am already Pre-1700 certified. At this time in my research, I have 3 direct ancestors from the Netherlands:

Jan Hendrickszen BREVOORT (8th great grandfather) was born on 5 January 1639, in Brevoort a small hamlet near Amersfoort, Utrecht, Netherlands. His father was Hendrick Janszen but his mother has not yet been identified.

Zacharian Van Weenen SICKLES (8th great grandfather) was born about 1630 in Vienna, Austria and then moved to Holland and from there to Curacoa, and finally settled in New York.

SWEARINGEN unknown male ancestor. My brothers' YDNA significantly matches to Swearingen but our surname is BROWN.

Thanks so much!

Hello, Mary Rose Van Fleet (Sherman-2334) here. I am interested in joining your group, but still need to polish my New Netherlands skills. We descend from the Dutch Van Vliet and Swartout families, and Bryant/Briant families who were French Huguenot. There are probably others I don't even know about yet!

Hi I'd like to join this project. I'm a descendent of several early Dutch settlers, such as Teunis Nyssen Denyce and Dirck Jan Woertman, but also several English families who settled in Middleburg and Jamaica while they were in the Dutch colonies. Do they fit within the scope of this project?
by Martha Leinroth G2G1 (1.8k points)
Quick answer: Those English families likely fit within project scope, and they may also fit within other projects like Puritan Great Migration.

Hi, my name is Jan Peterson and I am interested in joining the New Netherland Settlers Project.  I just joined Wikitree earlier this year so am still learning my way around the site.  However, I would love to be a part of what you are doing if I could.   I descend from New Netherland immigrants from both of my parents.  My immigrants  include:  Kreijn (Jansen) Van Meteren on my mom's side and Cors Pieterson and his wife, Tryntje Henderickse on my dad's side.  I am currently working on my two Dutch lines in order to expand my family tree and then add them here as well if needed.

Hello, Jan! Glad to hear about your research. Even if it turns out that your ancestors are already in WikiTree, you are likely to have some good content (and sources) to contribute to the Tree. :-)

My lines / branches are growing like it is spring time in WT, I have "to many irons in the fire" so to speak.

Sarah "Saerta" (Brokaw) Smith https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Brokaw-250 !

I just today posted 23 possible Sources this project may be quite interested in: Example:  [http://www.geocities.ws/hharrisons-gen/dat14.htm '''Femmetje Brokaw 1763, Femmetje Brokaw, Broucard 1707, Jan (John) Broucard 1681, John Broucard 1678, Bourgon Broucard 1644 (France to Raritan, Somerset, New Jersey)''' geocities.ws]. I am always glad to try to share Sources even if they are sometimes redundant. JPV IV :)

I have many New Netherlands ancestors, including Aldert Heymans Roosa, Louis Du Bois and Katryn Blanshan, Jan Jansen Postmael and Jannetje Legere, Hans Kiersted and Sara Roeleffse Janse, and no doubt others that are not coming to mind. I live in Kingston, NY, and have contacts with the Old Dutch Church here.

Hello. My name is Jay Fletcher, and my wikitree identifier is Fletcher-5519. I am pre-1700 certified. I would like to learn more about my Dutch ancestors who settled in New York and New Jersey in the 1600s. I have also recently joined the Huguenot project, as I believe some of my Dutch ancestors may have emigrated from France to the Netherlands, and then to New Netherlands. Surnames of interest are Van Wagenen/Van Wagoner, Depeyster, Provoost, van der Beek, Brinkerhoff, Roome, van der Voort, Brinkerhoff, Van Houten, Remsen, Diederix, Vreeland, van Gelder, Ryerson, and Hagedorn. I look forward to contributing the New Netherlands Settlers Project.

Hello Carrie, I would like to join the New Netherland project as my oldest known paternal ancestor is Gerrit Jansen van Oldenburg who came to New Netherland in the early 1630's and was a foreman on Killian van killian van rensselaer farm.  I am a co-administrator of the Garrison YDNA project on FTDNA where the Gerrit'sen  descendants are the largest group.
