Is it possible to change the look of the gender box?

The errors that come up most frequently in the db_errors report are to do with gender: missing or incorrect.

When you create a brand-new profile, the boxlines around the gender field are thinner than the others, hence maybe people just don't see it?  The pink and blue don't appear next to the box when you are adding someone new.

Is there any way to make these lines as thick as the lines around all the other fields?  (Or maybe make the pink-blue appear on the Add Person form.)  Maybe that would decrease the number of missing/incorrect genders we are finding.

Maybe. But many of the missing genders that I have come across were from gedcoms, where the import had been unable to interpret the gender field (for whatever reason).
I've also thought that it would be very helpful to make that Gender box more prominent. I've added genders to quite a few profiles that were created manually by contributors who apparently simply overlooked that box.
The gender choice COULD be radio buttons - then you'd see both the options.
We do still need the third option. Sometimes profile creators leave gender as undetermined because they can't tell...
So how about radio buttons for

Male - Female - Unknown - Uncertain

Hello, Ros!

That sounds like a good suggestion - thicker borders for input boxes.

Another option might be to color code certain input descriptors (gender, birth date, sources would be good choices; it's been done before!).

Your suggestion of radio buttons has merit also, Eva.

Maybe Chris and his crackerjack tech team can get it done!!
