Correct name of the King of Portugal

+10 votes
30 days ago i proposed a merge between two profiles that represent the King of Portugal. One profile manager approved the merge and the other defaulted. I would like to make the merge but do not know which profile name to use. The choices are :

Joao De Portugal (De Portugal-32) or John I of Portugal (Avis -17)

Some of the profiles of John's children used Avis originally but now say 'formerly Avis'.His son Edward, who followed as king is Of_Portugal.

Could someone with some knowledge advise or if you want to, make the merge? Please.

Thanks Jeanie, I have merged the two profiles.

In actual fact neither of the LNABs were correct. The general rule for naming European royals and aristocrats is to use the dynasty name which was actually Avis (Aviz is the English version) and then de Portugal becomes the CLN.  Both names then follow the overall Wikitree naming standards of using names in the language the person would have used.

Looks like the profiles for their children are going to need a lot of work.
