One Name Study vs Surname Project vs just in the tree [closed]

I am new to WikiTree, so need help understanding the direction I should go with two of my family names.  They are one name studies to me, as I collect everyone by that name in the USA prior to about 1900-1910.  Before I start importing the trees I'd like some advice on where/how I should continue.  Should I set up a one name study category/project first and put them in there?  Or just a surname category/project?  Or should I add all the people to the general WikiTree first and then put them into a specific category or project?  There are over 2,000 names in each of these family surname trees, so I'd like some direction from those who have already gone through this kind of activity.

My advice is quality over quantity.

In WikiTree and in genealogy sourcing the facts you add is the key to do something that benefits the Wikitree family tree.

Lesson learned is better to create profiles manually an add sources to them than import many profiles...

Jerri, Start small with say about 50 names in a GEDCOM to get the feel of just how much work is involved with doing it that way. Most of us have discovered that it is more work and more time consuming to upload a GEDCOM  than it is to just input the information manually, and you wind up with a better profile by not uploading a GEDCOM. The sad truth is even if you have good sources they will not transfer well. Start adding the profiles and then worry about if you can add them to an existing project  or if you need to start a new project or study.

Thanks to both of you for your suggestions.  I assume that the answer to my question is to just add them to the tree first.  I have checked the couple hundred names I have already added to WikiTree, and sometimes the sources come through nicely, and other times they are a mess.  Don't know why....they all came from the same program.  But it seems to me that the biography and source cleanup goes a lot faster than hand entering all those profiles.
