Family Search Outage

+10 votes

Meant to post this yesterday

FamilySearch has been working hard to upgrade our website to accommodate the ongoing growth of new features, such as hinting in the Family Tree. As a part of this process, will undergo a technical upgrade on Monday, June 27, starting at 12:00 a.m. MDT (6:00 a.m. UTC). The site may be unavailable for up to 24 hours as we test the system improvements.

Thank you for your patience as we make these changes. We are excited about this site upgrade and the increased capacity to help people around the world discover their ancestors.

Thank You,

Thanks for the info. I can stop trying to load the page now for the rest of the day since it's going to be down for a considerable time. 12:00 a.m. MDT (6:00 a.m. UTC) = 7am here, which is the time I usually get up and start searching :(

I do have some other sources such as public trees, local censuses, online parish records and graveyard audits and there is ancestry and freeBMD etc but is the main one I prefer to use so it is sorely missed already.
Likewise, it is one of my main go to's for info.

Not having it available is second only to losing the internet connection, an occasional occurrence for several hours at a time here in rural Ireland.
I even solved the internet connection problem, I not only have DSL but I also have a wireless connection from my cell phone company with at least 3 devices that can act as a WiFi router.

Edited to correct spelling and add Now if I can save up to replace this computer with it's locking up and bad keyboard.

I was worried about this all week because I use that site every day to find sources for profiles both on here and on there. The good news is I have other places for sources, not as good but they still work, and have been able to create new sourced profiles as well as add sources to some that were unsourced.

Haha, imagine! 24 hours without genealogy :-)

FYI, I struggled through roundly two weeks of a lousy connection, spending several hours every day doing stuff at wikitree. It was totally impossible to use Arkiv Digital (or watch a Youtube video) - so I learnt a lot about the advantages of Riksarkivet SVAR.

so I learnt a lot about the advantages of Riksarkivet SVAR.????

I could still decide to go to a couple of local cemetery's and work on find a grave if I get really bored.

Well, this doesn't have anything to do with the original question - I was just trying to illustrate how I struggled on with my genealogy in spite of the lousy connection I had. Arkiv Digital and Riksarkivet - SVAR are two main repositories of digitized Swedish church books. I subscribe to both - and usually prefer the superior image quality of AD to the more extensively indexed records at SVAR. With the bad connection I couldn't even open the custom reader of AD - and learned to appreciate ministerial books indexed by birth-death-marriage plus year. Sorry for writing something that needed a lengthy explanation.

No, thanks for the information. I just did not know what it was. Salted away for future reference!!
If you come across any Swedish connections, I'll be glad to help.

I ran into this by accident last night (just as I made a discovery, too.)

I just used Family Search successfully in the last few minutes. So it seems to be back up now.
