Abandoned profiles had name changed before PM left - Delete them?

+13 votes
This person appears to have uploaded a bunch of profiles but then at the end of 2015 came in and changed all of the profile names (including LNAB) to their last initial. And removed all dates. So therefore a bunch of worthless profiles.

Is it possible these could just be deleted instead of renamed AGAIN?

hahaha... well, that's certainly one way to work around the "no delete" rule and remove one's family tree from the site.

I agree that perhaps these profiles should be deleted.

Having been through most of the profiles and the changes made, I cannot see a meaningful way to retain or rename the profiles.

All of the profiles had names at one time, and some of them had dates or places. For example, profile P_d_P-1 was once Emilia Pezza de Pavignano and  E-449 was once Pasquale Episcopo, born Lecce, Italy (or born Poggiardo, Italy, and married to Clementina Tamborino Frisari).

It's a low probability, but there could be enough there to merge them into other profiles that someone created for these people (if such exist), or even to figure out who they were. The names are unusual enough that the people might be identifiable.

Seems like an awful lot of work (for very little reward), and would add yet another level of redirection. It would be better if it were possible to simply rollback the merges to a previous state.

Or just delete them.
Regis Giampersa manages some profiles for people named Episcopo who lived in Bari (very close to Poggiardo and Lecce). I've posted a message on his profile to see if has thoughts on using these profiles.
Hi Ellen!

I don't know how I could help, if needed I could try to research on this people, but he didn't inform any dates. These might be still living.

I found a Francesco Pezza di Pavignano from Torino that lived in the 1880s, but on a hurry I could not find any family. He seemed to be of noble origins.

Maybe the system should have some way to reverse the entries before they were vandalized and then let them for adoption.
