What is the oldest image (non photographic) you have of an ancestor who is not a noble or notable person?

The oldest I have come down to a choice of two. One is a portrait of my g g grandfather, James Alterator. He was born in 1845, and I guess he is no older than 40 in the painting, so I am thinking that it was painted in the 1880s. He was born in Stroud in the Peel Valley NSW Aust, to Agustin Alderete (a Chilean muleteer) and Mary Connors (a convict). He died on April 26, 1918.

You can see it on http://www.wikitree.com/photo/png/Alterator-9

The second is a pen sketch of my g g g grandfather James Anson. It appeared in the New Zealand Herald 6 November 1897 with his obituary (but must be older). Born in Oldham Lancs UK c 1810, he fought bravely in the British Army and became one of the most decorated members of The Royal NZ Fencibles, who defended Auckland in the Maori Wars. He was the last of his regiment to die. You can see it on http://www.wikitree.com/photo/jpg/Anson-208

In Sweden criminals was one of the first people who got a photo.... so if you are lucky you find a criminal person in your family tree ;-)

how interesting!
Great question, Susan! This could be a question of the week.

That's funny, Magnus. :-)
I have up-loaded 5 generations of images of myself(1), my parents(2), my grandparents(4), great-grandparents(8), and half of my g-g-grandparents(8)...I'm still working on getting that generation complete.  Earliest birth is early 1800's...no criminals!

There's a statue in Salem, MA, of my 9th great grandfather, Roger Conant. He was baptised 4/09/1592 in E. Budleigh, Devonshire, England and died 11/19/1679. He was born about 100 years before the Salem witch trials.

"Roger Conant Founder of Massachusetts" by Clifford Shipton, Harvard University Press, 1944, p. 142: "Crowded into the little house at Bass River were Lot, little Roger, little Sarah, Joshua, Mary, Elizabeth, and Exercise."
