"Correction Officer," What an unfortunate choice of name. Should we change it to something more positive?

A "CORRECTION OFFICER"  in New Zealand belongs to Corrections.  These officers run the countries Prison Services and every thing related.  Please change this horrible name that immediately brings to mind, punishment, power of control, thou shalt toe the line, do as you are told or else, to name a few.

Here is my suggestion,  "Profile Assistance." to start the ball rolling. I am quite sure that you good people out there can come up with a much better name than CORRECTION OFFICER. We Need a name that is positive, caring & non threatening.

The name was probably inspired by the top comment on this thread: http://www.wikitree.com/g2g/248203/help-need-a-project-name?show=248203#q248203
I don't like the term either. It reminds me of punishment and jail - far from the atmosphere we want to create. Definitely something more positive would be welcome!
Sigh. I think it's a funny play on words. Conveys a sense of humor and a reminder that we shouldn't take ourselves too seriously...
I like the way you think Jillaine.
My thinking was the same as Jillaine's. It's meant to be fun. I like how she put it: "we shouldn't take ourselves too seriously."

That said, too many people aren't getting the joke or don't find it amusing. With Corrections Officers posting notes asking people to make changes, some members are understandably getting touchy and the prison connotation makes it worse.

It would be nice if we had something else playful to replace it with. Erroneer? I don't know.

I hope Ales and members of the project are watching this. I'll add the project tag.
Troubleshooters...
As a Correction Officer myself, I support your request.
What about Tree Surgeons? They're fixing what's wrong.
OCDb... perfectionist...
"Tree Surgeons "  I kind of like that.
Today I happened to notice Abby refer to the Database Errors Project by the initials DBEP. Have others been using this? If so, maybe something like DBEPPERS?
Bobbie mentioned Validators below. That could be good.
I like that too. I hadn't seen Bobbie's post.
I like that as well.  What is the process of actually making a change?
I absolutely agree Athol ... your thread title made me laugh :) I too got a shiver up my spine at the name lol ~ yes change it! Corrections Officer is horrible :o

We took the names people seem to like the most and have put it to a vote here: http://www.wikitree.com/g2g/273479/help-rename-the-db-errors-project-members

Could just label it Db_errors and have the badge link to the project page.

I did not think of the negative connotation, Athol.  Thanks for pointing it out.  I agree that we don't want to imply control, punishment, or any of the other harsh things that you mentioned.  I'm not very creative in coming up with names, but I'm sure others will think of something more positive.

I agree Star.  A positive name change is  badly needed and I am hoping some one with more creative ideas suggests one.  I am short in this department as well.

Maybe a variation of Database Errors "resolution", "elimination" or "removal" (vote on one) "volunteer" .

Another thought would be  db errors corrections "volunteer" (instead of officer).

Humm or maybe Database Project "Volunteer" or "Member".

I like the current name. It's funny.
The problem with the name is that you might find it funny but as I work as a Wikitree 'Corrections Officer' mainly with New Zealand related records some of the Profile Managers that I contact or fix errors on 'their' profile aren't so amused with the title or perceived association to the title in the real world.

For all the work that people with this badge do, "helper" doesn't do it enough justice.

Thinking...........thinking...........thinking..............
Why does it need a name? None of the projects that I'm a member of give me a name, just a badge with the name of the project. I don't see why the Database Errors Project needs to be any different.
I think Chris Hampson has a good point that other project teams are known as project team members.
This project is more similar to Arborists or Rangers or Connectors than it is to projects related to a specific time or place, in my opinion. That is likely why a name for the members was created.
How about something related to "fixer".

Maybe "Database Errors Fixer"

In computer program gaming play there are programming strategies to improve effectiveness and efficiency through the use of data base "managers" and "data cleaners", to"sanitize" error and truncated programs.

I like Caretaker.
Me, too,

While I understand the play on words....we already know how things get mis-translated..."need to merge our grapes"  With a dictionary meaning of officer being

a person who holds a position of rank or authority

a member of a police department or a constable.

a person appointed or elected to some position of responsibility

Caretaker has a much better "feel"

a person who is in charge of the maintenance

a person who takes care of another person....
In the same thread as medic... what about Data Doctor? Curing bad data...

The process of correcting data entry errors is called "Validation" in the industry.
by James Luper G2G6 (8.1k points)
Then how about the VALIDATORS? Sort of like a TERMINATOR.
Nice ..
Back then (1985) my job title was Data Validation Specialist...
That sounds good, Bobbie.

Db_Volunteer

But I had no problem with the Corrections Officer. It was the mission I liked, not into the badge name.

I suggest that the whole project change from Database Error --> WikiTree Quality Assurance

I think Aleš has surprised everyone with his quality and new way of finding data in WikiTree that has not been validated.

As we now have started to connect WikiTree with Wikidata then we also can start quality check data with external sources..

  1. Do we have the same Death dates as Wikipedia/WikiData
    1. Do we have a death date when WikiData has it (feels like they update the same day)
  2. Do we miss a spouse in Wikitree when they say one exist in WikiData
  3. Do we have a reference to FindAGrave when Find a Grave has updated WikiData with a reference (then we maybe need a template for FindAGrave links in WikiTree to track what we have done) ?
  4. ......
