Profile Protection

Why would this profile be Project protected? It does not even indicate which Project it belongs too.

I think it would be eligible for protection by the US History project.

Probably or maybe because of the different names ? One is Johnston and one Johnstone, looking at the Bio Johnston probably is the correct one, so to prevent it will be merged away into wrong LNAB Johnstone it probably has PPP  ?

And noticed the Johnson name study and a lot of them are PPP 't so maybe all profiles part of the name study were PPP't ?

It's a bit confusing indeed because the earlier generation all have Johnstone for LNAB and are PPP't as well.Could use more sources to make it more clear and to know what LNAB is and what isn't correct .

indeed - different projects have different criteria for profile protection. As this is a one-name study category profile, I reckon that the reason is as Bea explains that it is there to protect it being merged away. Profile protection though in all projects the eventual goal, is not in all cases a permanent thing, sometimes it is part of the process of validation (as in the New Netherlands Project where there has been massive duplication of variant surnames of the exact same people) it is a temporary measure to ensure that profiles with the more correct spelling of the LNAB are not merely merged away. Until further research has determined a more final LNAB or target profile that is.
