My ancestress Johanna Anson formerly Leggett  was born  c 1808 in Birr Co Offaly IRL. She married James Anson, who was in the British Army, stationed in Ireland. They went to NZ as part of the Royal NZ Fencibles, aboard the Berhampore 1849. Reputedly the first white woman to milk a cow in NZ and the first nurse, according to family story. Since then, I have learned that she was a midwife.

I would love to know more about Johanna. Was she of Irish parentage, or was she a soldier's daughter?
