Could the birth and death dates be more accurate in categories?

Why don't actual birth and death years appear on the category profile lists? Could the real year, with qualifiers (before, after, etc.), appear instead of decades?

I never realized/noticed that the birth and death dates that appear in the category profile lists are just the decade. I've searched but don't find any discussion on why it's done that way. Am I not finding the discussion or has no one ever asked the question before.

Example: Category: 10th Missouri Cavalry (Confederate), US Civil War John Harris died "before 1890" not in the 1890s. It could be anytime after 1866 but definitely before June 1890.

This is something we could put on the to-do list if others think it's a high priority.

Thank you for bringing it up, Debi.

The problem is that lots of times people in such categories are private and dates for private people are generally listed by decade if they're shown at all.  So rather than doing a bunch of checking to see if a person is and stays private, they're just entered that way for everyone in things like categories where the exact date isn't really important.  If you need the date for some reason you can click on the profile and find it there.
