How to classify 487th Bombardment Group

Question

Working on some POW's and WWII profiles and am sort of stuck in trying to categorize the 487th Bombardment Group (Heavy) from WWII. (under 8th AF?) I know there is an ongoing military wwi project, so could someone advise me on how to set it up or do the actual setting up? Pretty please?

You'd think I'd be more AF-fluent since I'm married to a retired AF officer and was in the USN for 7 years. hahaha. I don't get how the AF command is tiered and need to do some research!

I'm not sure if you are asking what command it served under or asking how to add a profile in WikiTree.

The 487th Bombardment Group was part of the 8th Air Force stationed in Lavenham, Suffolk, UK during WW2.

with the proposed structure almost ready to be accepted, it should end up as using this is the profile of the person:

on that category page, it will have category entries linking it under the operational commands:

• II Bomber Command, 20 September 1943
• Second Air Force, 6 October 1943 – 13 March 1944

• 4th Bombardment Wing (Provisional), 22 November 1944
• 4th Combat Bombardment Wing, 16 February–24 August 1945
• Third Air Force, 3 September–7 November 1945

units moved around, got renamed, reorganized...  it is hard to keep track of them and what units they were a part of, and what units they were made up from, without identifying a specific timeframe.

Thanks, Keith. I knew that units got reassigned rather often, which is how I got confused about where to subcategorize. I've been doing some WWII POW profiles in the last year, and it's been pretty straightforward until the 487th!
