News on Database errors project (3 July 2016)

Analysis was done on data from July 3rd 2016.

So in 7 days 17192 errors were corrected by my estimation.Great job. Have fun correcting errors.

You can also join the project here:

Note: Usually with one correction you can correct multiple errors, because errors repeat in different groups.

Detailed statistics are available on in Statistics section.

I guess we should read:

I lIke the new format for the errors with the exception of being able to print the page. I was printing all errors for a surname or for my ancestors. I tried in both IE and Chrome. Two issues: Firstly, the left side prints and takes up a lot of space. Secondly, only one page of data can be printed which is a bigger issue.

These are areas where research is needed so having a printed list is helpful to keep track of where I am at.

I added new checkbox Show result in new tab so the resulting page opens in new tab. Then you can print that page.

This is also useful if you want to bookmark resulting page.

Aleš (woot! I found the s with caron on my Mac!),

What do you think about an error for profiles in the root category that have text present in the birth location or death location fields? Those profiles could be moved to a more specific unsourced category so that genealogists working in that region could find sources for them.

Thanks for all that you do! You and Magnus are my heroes this summer.

That was my idea, to help out projects with verifying categories and finding missing one's.

Chris just released first part of new database dump. I expect categories and bio soon.

Then this can be done. I already have some plan on what to do with new dump, after that I can do this. I will ask in G2G for ideas, when I will have time to do it, so remind me then.
Do you want to verify it only for countries with unsourced categories or for all countries?

Should I check birth place, death place or both and in case of different country, should I add both categories. How about marriage location?
I usually add the unsourced categories for any location in the birth, death, or marriage. It's just as easy to delete three categories as one when you add a source, and more unsourced categories increases the likelihood of an interested genealogist noticing the profile.

Until we have categories in the dump, I use a Ruby scraper to identify profiles in my unconnected category that are actually connected:

We have started add unsourced per Swedish Parish ==>

Instead of Sweden Unsourced (1,437 members) we try to have the parish Name Unsourced see Category:Sweden_Parish_Unsourced_Profiles

Sounds good - we have the same system for US States. What are the letters on the parish categories (BD, L, T, U, X, Y, Z) ?

Sweden is an old country and we change administration units more often than I change shirt....

Parish administration units that is rather stable since 1600 and is excellent for genealogy as the priest have written church books per parish since 1600 BUT if we have 2500 parishes and the names are not unique... to make them unique people in Sweden has used county letter and that is L T etc... BUT  last week someone thought about changing the counties again so then I assume the county letter change.....

Map of Sweden with the county letter. Below parishes in Gotland (county letter I) the island to the right 92 parishes (swedish socknar)

For all inpatient one's.

Chris made new database dump this monday, so there will be some delay on errors update. Probably one day.

LOL. Don't want to tell you how many times I looked last night for this weeks database dump and wondered if your health was ok. It was good that I got back to some other projects for a night, though.
Indeed, I thought: he is taking a break. You deserve it! Thanks for the update.
