Hi I'm new to Wikitree and am anxious to get started sharing information.

Question

My name is George Pruitt and my dad's family originated in Washington County Alabama.  His father's name was Spurgeon Pruitt.  My grandmother is also from Alabama born in a town called Frankville, I believe this is just north of Jackson Alabama.  My grandparents both are deceased and were buried in St. Stephens Alabama.  I've been working on my family tree through a program called Family Tree Make.  Right now I have upwards of 400 people listed.  I'm started with those that I know and just want to give accurate information.  In the future I don't want people to be guessing.  I want them to know.

Don't be temped to add your people by gedcom. I did that and it was a big mistake. Very hard to clean up the mess afterwards.

A few pointers...

Add people by hand

Look for the earliest known ancestor before you add people. Your father or grandfather name not be in the database yet, but their parents or grandparents may be. Avoid adding duplicates.

Search any possible spelling of your surnames before adding people

Add sources at the same time so you don't end up with a big backlog of profiles you have to add sources to.

I am glad you found the G2G forum. It is the hub of our communication and the place you will easily find help and advice from like minded people.

There is no time frame or quota to fill here so work at your own pace and enjoy what you are doing. Quality far out weighs quantity so the attitude you have is perfect.

The Wikitree family are big hearted, warm, friendly people so if you hit a brick wall or are confused over something please do ask for help.
