Poor choice of words.

In today's Wikitree Family News email this was used to describe pre 1500 certified genealogists:    elite group ofadvanced genealogists.  This is a poor choice of words to describe those members.  There have been many blogs written about elitists in genealogy and the trouble they cause for others, including pushing away new genealogists.  Perhaps dedicated group would have been a better choice.

I thought exactly the same thing when I read that and for me it was the final nail in the coffin re pre 1500 - absolutely not interested in joining that club. It came across as egotistical and vain, an attitude I recently likened to wikitree nobility.

Way not the way to go wikitree ... sorry ... but it has to be said.

I started noticing this and posted questioned it before when I had random people make updates on profiles I managed.  People that were relatives.  There would be no comment made just a change.  I question them and a day or 2 later would get I was in a hurry and didn't have time to leave a comment.  Collaboration means working together not forcing your way onto others in a group.  I figure if you don't have time to leave a comment you don't have time to make the change.  No those are the elite among us.

Exactly right.  It only takes a moment to fill in the reason for the edit.
And now the new elite of error correcting are on the loose.

I do see me leaving soon, I'm just not good enough to be here.

Bravo!!! Well said Michael. Certainly the self certification process to obtain the designations of pre-1700 and pre-1500 can not be classified as either elite or advanced.

It's not like a college course is involved to become pre certified.  Just keep trying until you get the answers.
