multiple duplicates in the Samples, Sampel Lines

HI

I was running some information on Moses Samples when this all started.  There are duplicates of him and his wife Ruth Sample formerly Wood. So being the nut I am I started looking back.  Yea this is a BIG CAN of worms.

As you know there are multiple managers of which I am not one.  How do I go about starting to clean up this mess.  Can I get help from an Arborist or Mentor? Can I volunteer to become an Arborist ? What training do I need?

Ok here is where I am at with this

Samuel Sampel   DOB 1711 in Stafford, Virginia
Samuel William Samples   DOB 1682 in Scotlandmap
Samuel Samples Sr aka Semple  DOB February 1, 1711 in Virginia

all have the same DOD  of 1776 in Augusta, Virginia, United States
Samples 312(father)  and Samples 190(son) are father and son
The wives for Samples-7 and Samples-312 is Ann Scott
Wife for Samples-190 is Hannah Scott
Samples -190 and 312  have a marriage date of married September 24, 1745 in Sussex County, Delaware

I am comfortable doing most merges. The problem is that we are not talking about the few above  I have a feeling we are talking about many many more when you look at all the children.   There are also a few with date ranges past the 1700's and those may be hard to source.

How do I let people know that there is going to be some complicated merges going on  ...I think my fear is that there are going to be many merges and some of them are gong to be very complicated.

Such as if you cant find good source or any source material  on a parent child linage do you leave the existing parent child bond or remove it?

I would tend to error on the safe side and leave the bond  and add  a notation of some kind on the profile that says it  needs source info to help document linage.

Any advice as to how to deal with the multiple spellings of the name on the same person would be  appreciated. I know we go with the lowest number of the correct spelling as used in their time.. The problem is I have seen it spelled Samply Sample Samples Semple. Simple. So which way do you merge?  I know I can add the other spellings in the other last names or Current last name

There are only 5 profiles with the name Sampel  in the data base none of these have sources other than user supplied.   There are 468 SAMPLEs. and 514 SAMPLESs  most of the duplicates are there.

You can initiate a merge for the mentioned profiles.

yes I have started that process now.  But there are many many profiles involved  and sourcing that is going to be needed.  I changed my question above to hopefully clarify what need to know how to do.  Mainly how do I let people know that these profiles are going to be going through complicated merges.

You may want to read the Merging page for more information about how to initiate a merge and how the process works.

Hi

I have started the process of asking for merges  I think my fear is that there are going to be many merges and some of them are gong to be very complicated.

Such as if you cant find good source or any source material  on a parent child linage do you leave the existing parent child bond or remove it?

I would tend to error on the safe side and leave the bond  and add  a notation of some kind on the profile that says it  needs source info to help document linage .

I changed my question to maybe better express where I am looking for info.  I mainly need to know what to do with the children or wives that there are no sources for.

The Samples were a prolific group. and they loved sharing family names  as often was the case in the early 1800's.

Thanks for the quick answer  I am sorry the initial question was worded so badly
