Dalton, duplicate profiles are combined by merging them. See http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Merging

There's a great video guide to merging profiles at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjupJR4GI3w

Dalton, I'm glad you're here and that you've noticed the problem.

WikiTree is different from other sites in that we are working on one single tree. To grow one shared tree we need to share the same profiles. Every person who ever lived should have one and only one profile on WikiTree.

If you ever find yourself thinking, "hmm, I thought I had entered this person already," you'll want to stop and search WikiTree for that person by name. You could also check all the profiles you manage by selecting My WikiTree -> Watchlist. We use the WikiTree ID (e.g., you are Hathaway-1854 and I am Lowe-866) to create new family links to existing profiles. So when we click links to "add father" or "add child", instead of entering someone's names and dates on the form a second time we just enter their ID like Hathaway-123 in the indicated form field and click the button to save.

If you have additional Hathaway children that you have yet to create a profile for it would be good to use the extra Jean and Ethel profiles for them.

The other way is to merge the profiles, but merging creates links behind the scenes that aren't "tidy".

If you are unsure how to use an existing profile to create a new Hathaway let me know some details and I can do it for you.
