This might be a dumb question but is there anyway to tell if someone was part of a clan?

I have some Andersons,Scotts and a Grant who were from Scotland but I am unsure if they were in Clans or not

Thanks

There aren't any membership lists.  You're just supposed to say, they were a Scott so they were a member of Clan Scott, etc.

A List of Scottish Clans is given in http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Scottish_Clans as part of the Scottish Clans Project.

Anderson, Scott and Grant are listed.
