How to solve a dead in?

Question

My great grandfather was Rufus "Willie" McCarty. Born any 1877 in Kentucky.  Died July 1923 in Evansville Indiana.  Had 5 children. Parents were from Ireland per census records. Married Cordia Lewis in Spencer Indiana. Unknown siblings. He is my dead in and I want so much more. Any help would've appreciated.

Now I need to find out where they were born. In a census report Rufus stated both were from Ireland.
