Large Iranian family of about 400 names going back 10 generations.
Can I enter the first name and family name in Farsi characters ?
Are there any ramifications for later search or tree display ?

Current WikiTree style guide is to use the language and script local to the people involved. This applies to both names and locations. I would, however, include a Latinized version of the name, perhaps in the Other Name field.

Thanks for your suggestion. I will enter a Latinized version of first and last name in the corresponding Other Name field.

Thanks for asking. We need more international participation.
As Helmut indicated, the names should be entered with Farsi. Storing and displaying the characters should not be a problem. I'm not entirely sure about searching and matching. There could be some problems in that area that we need to work out.
