I have an IDEA for the New Zealand Project [closed]

My Idea consist of making a new sub-category for the New Zealand Project named "descendants of Famous New Zealand Figures"

For example I am planning to create a category:Descendants of Rev. Thomas Kendall

Rev. Thomas W Kendall made what New Zealand is now, he learnt Māori, taught natives how to read and write in english, and he was the first "Justice of Peace" (JP) in New Zealand.

Thomas family is well researched with descendants spread all over the world, but most of them stayed in New Zealand and Australia.

  • This Idea when created will connect distant cousins in New Zealand

Thomas W Kendall was my 5x Great grandfather

Thanks

[[Category: New Zealand Pioneers]]

We've got a category "New Zealand Pioneers" which collects these founding fathers.

Keep a look out for connections as most of the missionary families have already found their way into Wikitree. There is a great deal of intermarriage among this first generation of settlers.

Thanks

I Looked on the New Zealand Pioneer Website and there are a lot of mistakes. read the link below and find them. (1920 should be 1820 ect)

Well - this Wikitree, typos aren't serious mistakes, you have the opportunity to correct mistakes, always leaving a source for your change of course.
Thanks Valerie, for mentioning that category.
My forefathers (The Valpys) fit that!!

I like your idea and I think it's better than "pioneers" as not everyone notable in NZ should be described as a "pioneer." Also, it seems the New Zealand Pioneers category doesn't exist anymore anyway.

Please keep in mind that this idea was first proposed in 2016 - 4 years ago.
Yes but I still think it's a good idea.
The New Zealand Pioneers category was changed to the New Zealand Colonists category https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:New_Zealand_Colonists

Doesn't have quite the same flavour, but more useful for adding sub-categories like special settlements eg. Waipu and the NZ Company, and special occupations like boat builders, goldmines and missionaries etc. Descendants of ... could also be linked, but should be organised as a One Name Study first.

Oh, excellent! Thanks, Valerie! I see that there are lots of categories within NZ Notables too. Good work, team!

I do wonder if there is something in the "descendants of..." idea, for descendants rather than the people themselves. But, now that I think about it, I'm not actually sure where someone would start with such a category. There are so many notables listed that probably most NZers are descended from at least one of them.

Also has Robynne has pointed out, this was asked and closed ages ago anyway!
