It is said that when my great great grandmother Euphemia Tole and her three sisters moved into Owen's Gap out of Scone NSW in the late 1860s, the young men were out of their mind with interest. Imagine: four eligible young women (pretty as well) coming into a region heavily populated by males! 

One day a young drover named James Glendenning Schofield together with his cousin, Robert Spencer Duckworth, were riding along the track out of Owen's Gap, and they came across Euphemia and sister Mary Ann, watering their horses. Of course, the young men just had to stop and make sure the girls were all right. Wink, wink.

Yes, you guessed it. Within a year, James married Euphemia and Robert married Mary Ann.

Benjamin Skiff and Polly Patchen. It is traditionary that her mother, a Miss Rachel Pardee, was the belle of Sharon and jilted Noah Webster, who was then teaching a day school, and singing school evenings, in Sharon (1792). She was advised by a vote of the church to marry Capt. Abel Patchen.

Daniel Wade Lapham-375 was my great-grandfather.  My parents always said his story was that of "My Maryland".  Daniel served in Company K, 9th New York Cavalry during the Civil War. He enlisted at LaGrange NY September 20 1861. He achieved the rank of Captain. Family history relates that he was wounded during the war, sheltered and nursed back to health by a Southern belle whom he later returned for and married. My parents had a copy of a war-time Richmond VA newspaper congratulating a soldier for killing a Yankee Captain DW Lapham and capturing his horse. THE REPORTS OF HIS DEATH WERE GREATLY EXAGGERATED; though they did capture the horse which is how they got his name.
