Any info on the Cox Family from Bermuda.

Question

My John Cox sailed from England at the age of 12 and became a pirate for a number of years.  He landed in Bermuda and married Joan Seymour, daughter of Gov. Florentius Seymour.  Their great grandson, Charles Cox, came to the U.S. by way of "Charles Town", SC, and later bought land in Onslow, NC where many of their descendants live today.

In searching for my Cox ancestral line, I found a book called The Cox Family in America and within it it talks about Coxes who came to Bermuda and gives some general background history about them and their migration to other areas from there.  You might find something of interest in the book.  I found it at archive.org and downloaded it to my Kindle, but you can read the text at that website and search within the book for specific terms.  FamilySearch.org may have a copy of it available to look through as well, I don't know.  None of my folks were in Bermuda that I know of.

Thanks for your response.  I came across the website you mentioned a few years back and found that while most of it fit my research, they did not add birth and death dates so proving any lineage was complicated.  I discovered they left out one of their direct descendants and if they had the birth and death dates, they would have realized that a generation was skipped. My Cox ancestors arrived here before Ellis Island.  They were sea merchants from Bermuda and Bahamas and from my research, they arrived on their own ship.

My Cox ancestors were in this country before Revolutionary War.  My g-g-grandfather was born in PA (I believe) around 1795.  I'm guessing Greene Co, PA because that's where my grandfather was told his family came to WV from and they are on the 1850 Tyler Co, VA(WV) census.

I too have Cox ancestors that branched off to PA but since they were not direct, I have not traced them.  What are the names and birth/death dates of your earliest Cox ancestors and I will check them against mine to see if we connect.
