Sorry Brian,  I have just seen this.  It was Berkhampsted which by a curious twist of fate is the same location as the details that you sent me.  When I have further experience of genealogy I may find that he is linked to my family tree in some way also.

Finally found him as Hubbard,( surname transcription error as image is clearly Timson) in 1911 Census.

He was the son of Octavius Paul Timson & Avis Annie Wood, who married in 1899.

There is a photograph of James Edward Timson on a family tree on Ancestry. The tree lists his parents as Arthur Bernard Timson (1863/1913 Hertfordshire) & Elizabeth Saltmarsh (1866 Berkhamsted/1940)

This is a different James Edward Timson.  Both born in the same year and in Berkhampstead but with a different date of birth.  The birth date I am looking for is 11th July 1902 so that I can trace his parents and siblings which is proving difficult.  Thanks for the comprehensive response and it may be that there are some other family links to the James Edward Timson you referred to.
