Unsourced Gedcoms

There is a statement made at
http://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/Wheatley:
"Do you have a GEDCOM? Register now and have every
name in your tree searched. It's free (like
everything on WikiTree)."
The language "have every name in your tree searched"
implies that all a person needs to do is upload and
wait, without making any personal effort. I don't
mind researching to find sources for unsourced
profiles, but I think this statement needs to be
amended or deleted. Can this be changed?

Hi Linda,

I'm not sure if this is the source of confusion, but that statement is in reference to GEDCOMpare, the tool for having every name in a GEDCOM compared against existing people on WikiTree, not in reference to importing GEDCOMs.

Unsourced GEDCOMs cannot be imported, unless they're very small.

Hi Chris,

Thank you very much for your reply.  I didn't realize WikiTree has such stringent requirements for gedcoms and I'm reassured, after reading the links you pointed me to.  I appreciate you taking time to explain what the statement is in reference to.  However, I still believe it is misleading and hope it will be amended.

I would also suggest that 100 unsourced profiles is too many.

I can see the point of non sourced profiles for living people and the next generation (for privacy reasons) but otherwise every unsourced profile is adding to the risk of creating a mythology.
That is an excellent suggestion.  Trying to correct a myth that has been perpetuated for years through undocumented online trees is virtually impossible.
One hundred is the technical cut-off. We need to leave some discretion for Eowyn and Erin, who personally review all GEDCOM imports. Every situation is different. Every file is different. Some systems don't export sources as SOURces in GEDCOMs so can't be identified technically (I'm embarrassed to say that WikiTree is one of them, since they're in bios).
