How to connect to Part of Big Tree & Global Family

+7 votes
I keep reading about one Big Family & become part of Global Family but so far I have not been able to learn how to do this with the profiles I have.

can some one explain to me  step by step instructions on how to do this & see  this  Big tree where  My family is connected /

also I do not know how to connect existing profiles  listed as unconnected. I tried on Josephine Guidry but di not get it to work.

Your profile is connected to the big tree so as long as the profiles on your watchlist are related to you, they will also be connected. The Unconnected list on your drop down will list new profiles for a day, until the nightly system update.

When adding new profiles, I usually search for their ancestors already here and give priority to adding profiles that will link to the best connected and sourced profiles :)

There's no guarantee that you will make a connection by any particular given step by step procedure.  What has to be done to connect an individual profile or group of connected profiles is to add profiles or connections until you link into a profile which is already part of the 8 million + strong main tree.  Sometimes this happens quickly and other times it takes a while.  Usually you will have the most success if you try working your way back via finding the parents of people you already have.  Usually you will eventually run into a Brick Wall where you can't find the next generation of parents or make a connection to the tree.  thought occasionally you'll get back before 1500 without finding an existing connection.  It that case you'll probably need to get help to see if there's someone who can work with you or point you to a project which may find you a connection.  But generally it's best to go back

to a time in the 1800s and find Censuses with family members and find the spouses of these children and trace back their lines to increase the number of lines you are searching.  Do a couple of iterations of this sort of widening your tree and you're likely to make a connection to the World Tree.  Once you find one connection, that whole group will be connected.  Ultimately you just need patience and keep on adding new lines to the tree you want to connect.

And don't forget to keep asking questions on G2G, especially if you're stuck.

Actually your [[Beaugh-15|Martha Beaugh]] is already connected to the global tree.  Once a profile is connected, within 24 hours you should see the connection at the very bottom of the page.  It will say something like, "Martha is 26 degrees from Anne Frank; 98 degrees from Queen Elizabeth, etc."

Martha and I are 23rd cousins!
