Have Roots in Arkansas? The Arkansas Project Needs You!!

I have just completed creating the County pages for the Arkansas Project of the US History and One Place Studies Projects. They need some Tender Loving Care to flesh them out, tell their history, their favorite sons and daughters, and their blacksheep, legends and tall tales and their warriors.

This took me a while because I have been near computerless. Laptops don't like to be dropped and mine hit the floor 4x. The last time broke a couple of thin wires and could not connect to the internet. In the meantime, I was going to the library where I could work 3 hours a day, but it was so busy with their summer activities, I ended up downloading census sheets to transcribe at home. I have the 1850 Union County AR near completed. My goal on the census transcription is not to correct the census takers misspellings, but to correct the indexers misspellings. The previous indexers did a bang up job!! I know how hard it is to transcribe. And I know that I probably made errors too.

There is the project page  http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Arkansas you can contact Allison for your badge. then Let me know if you want a county, or a sub project for a county like Civil War, WW1 or WW2, or Native American studies in Arkansas. The County Fairs or Magnolia, Watermelon, or Bradley Pink Tomato Days.

The US History Project brings most of the other projects under one umbrella.

Or if you just want to make profiles, I have the census to start with.

Arkansas State page I'm working on still  http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Arkansas

I am from Arkansas, ive lived here 30 yrs and have family from here
GREAT!!! What at? I think I've seen the Stillwell name in census. Most of my family is still in Miller and Lafayette.

There are so many aspects to this project. there is literally something for everyone.
Mostly Benton and Washington county
I've worked on Benton and Washington some. There are Jesters in Benton, not my direct line, but related. Mine are in Union and Lafayette.

Space:Washington_County_Arkansas

Space:Benton_County_Arkansas

There is still a lot to do.
This project has many parts to it.  The Wars, Historical places, Lots of AR politicians who have profiles are not complete. Legends, I think White County has a monster story also.  Cemeteries, Profiles need to be found that have AR connections and tagged.

Check out the Project:Arkansas if you see a county you are interested in or a part of the project you are interested in, Let me know.
My family is from Northwest, AR- Fayetteville, St. Paul area.  Any tips on McComas surname would be appreciated.  I could also add some stories if you wanted.
The NW corner isn't my area of expertise, I'm from the SW.  However,  We need volunteers to work all areas of Arkansas.

I discovered I'm 1/4 Arkansan!!  But my Great-grandfather died in 1898, the year before my GrandMother was born.  I can't find anything about this death: when, where, how.  Sometimes I wonder if he had moved out West.  But I did find church records and a quick claim deed that supported the fact that he died a few years before his father(both had the same name).

I will check out your projects page and hope that I can find something on him.

Hi Steve, let me know what you decide. Great to have another Arkansawyer, even if 1/4! Arkansas gets in your blood and soul. And its always great to learn your family origins and trackings.
