If not, it could be sub-categorized by state.

What a great question! Do you have an Orphan Train rider in your family tree?
I believe I do. My great uncle married a woman who was born in New York in 1903, where the trains originated, and was adopted by a childless Cajun couple who lived on a small subsistence farm in Opelousas, Louisiana, one of the destinations. I wondered how a poor, non-English-speaking couple from the heart of Louisiana had the wherewithal to adopt a child from New York City-- until I learned about the Orphan Trains, and it all fell into place.
I was about to post the same question. I think it is a great idea. I told someone if anyone had one it would be WikiTree.

I'll take that as a 'No.'

I don't have any personal connection, but it sounds like a good idea to me.  Have you contacted the US History project leaders?
No, I'm kind of a newbie and don't really know the protocol. I went ahead and made the category, but I probably should have thought to do that first. Thanks!
You did great!  Thanks for adding such an interesting and important category.

I added a photo and a couple more resource links to the category page.  If you need it, Cyndi's List has a nice list of resources:  https://www.cyndislist.com/railroads/orphan-trains/
